In life we come across obstacles which some of us call problems. Overdue bills, a customer or person that has annoyed us and traffic jams are some issues we run into every day of our lives. Now the interesting thing that happens when we run into these situations is exactly what we do WE RUN INTO THEM.
Time is spent talking about that somebody that has irritated us or some other situation which nobody else would have a problem with, sometimes we talk about the issue for days and even a few weeks after it has happened, we run into the problem and have a difficult time moving past it.
I'm very guilty of this, hopefully you can admit you are too. In retail selling I run into lots of people with many different personalities, sometimes you run into someone that can push your buttons. I've seen myself talk for days on end about that one customer. I based everything on that one bad experience. Now it wasn't until I was able to catch myself doing this and realizing it wasn't getting me anywhere that I could make a change. I decided to switch my focus to what was going right, an endless amount of customers that I can practice "MOTIVATIONAL SELLING" with, I also focus on my customer service skills (a constant learning). If I ever find myself talking about that one bad customer, I immediately have to stop myself. I'll tell you it's difficult but the pay off is HUGE. I haven't mastered this 100% but I must admit I am getting much better.
Always mad
I've recently finished speaking with someone who is always mad. Why, I don't know, and it's not up to me to find out. The key is listening to your thoughts and your words and figuring out exactly what your view of the world is. It can take some time but again the pay off is HUGE. You change your negative thoughts with something more positive, think of a puppy if you have to, just change that thinking. Then slowly learn to change your words. I've worked to take two words out of my vocabulary "Can't" and "Hate". What words can you learn to take out of your vocabulary? Find out your negative words and change them.
If you go day to day spending your focus on obstacles, negatives and the little things that don't really matter, you will end up being mad and angry for quit awhile. Do you want this?
Learn to put your focus on better things, everyday. Some people are able to do this much faster that others, never give up. It's all part of your constant and better improvement. Your quality of life will slowly start to change for the better.
Action Steps
1. Find out what 2 words in your vocabulary you can stop using tomorrow.
2. Think of 1-2 things that can make you smile or laugh when you run into a negative thought. ( I think of the cartoon character Goofy) That had to make you smile!
3. When talking of a negative situation stop yourself immediately. You will need to listen to your conversations.
Stay motivated
